Lucy Ives

STILL

How I want to grow up not to
Leave it
The fit

In my life, even the airplane

I didn’t want to start if I had to
understand each part of the release
If there were names for where we
  put our faces

Does that sound like I like this

Do I sound like this

And if you knew where you were
Going, what
Would you be doing?

Ask me how I feel

Lucy Ives is the author of a chapbook, My Thousand Novel (Cosa Nostra Editions, 2009), and a full-length collection, Anamnesis (Slope Editions, 2010). Five years of collages are here.

AND NOW

Dead to the air,
sitting there

an hour from now.
What’s afterthought.

ETERNALLY SALVAGED

That amber would turn
on fossil was obvious
thought I from an income

concussion across proper channels.
Looking through random eyelets, I found
a law to the worsening dream,
a matter of timing
scattered tightly into vast blanks
that became seams.

That wakefulness would bound
past instruction,
leaving us to act the restless,
decadent courier

dusting out of earshot for the buried deed—
that a surface, what
we cut up, sprouts half the time
this is taking
away.

Paul Ebenkamp lives and works in Berkeley CA.

TO BILL

priests   &   happy   people

in their epic super-8

seesaw wood up & down

the whole arienette
gonna collapse

silver,    in cool sleep

dream     the heart had a

stem cell

TO ELSA

word,     cranial,    bud antennae

on the phone your
voice
crashes open the cylinder

   all existant layers

      plowed through—

we have entered a time
of consequences

    all   full of  hair-blood

i can only say my heart breathes

   pumps verdure light

TO JOAN MARIE

is death which jerks us out of tenacious

minute organisms

every manifestation of our own

Nakedness

a state of continuity through

business

TO JO

beautiful blood, beautiful brain

god knows i work hard to escape

bloody snob, ezra
  meant “jewels”—

alas, poor old

   masters

let me indulge the

  american letter:

“i of course like your old man, and
i have drunk his Goldwasser”
